How to install and Configure kubectl?

To install kubectl on macOS

Download the latest release:

$ curl -LO "https://dl.k8s.io/release/$(curl -L -s https://dl.k8s.io/release/stable.txt)/bin/darwin/amd64/kubectl"
$ chmod +x ./kubectl
$ sudo mv ./kubectl /usr/local/bin/kubectl
$ sudo chown root: /usr/local/bin/kubectl
$ kubectl version --client

# Kubernetes 1.19:
$ curl -o kubectl https://amazon-eks.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/1.19.6/2021-01-05/bin/darwin/amd64/kubectl

# Kubernetes 1.18:
$ curl -o kubectl https://amazon-eks.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/1.18.9/2020-11-02/bin/darwin/amd64/kubectl

# Kubernetes 1.17:
$ curl -o kubectl https://amazon-eks.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/1.17.12/2020-11-02/bin/darwin/amd64/kubectl

To install kubectl on Linux

Download the latest release with the command:

$ curl -LO "https://dl.k8s.io/release/$(curl -L -s https://dl.k8s.io/release/stable.txt)/bin/linux/amd64/kubectl"
$ sudo install -o root -g root -m 0755 kubectl /usr/local/bin/kubectl
$ export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin/
$ kubectl version --client

Kubernetes 1.19:
$ curl -o kubectl https://amazon-eks.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/1.19.6/2021-01-05/bin/darwin/amd64/kubectl

Kubernetes 1.18:
$ curl -o kubectl https://amazon-eks.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/1.18.9/2020-11-02/bin/darwin/amd64/kubectl

Kubernetes 1.17:
$ curl -o kubectl https://amazon-eks.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/1.17.12/2020-11-02/bin/darwin/amd64/kubectl

To install kubectl on Windows

# Download the latest release with the command:
$ curl -LO https://dl.k8s.io/release/v1.20.0/bin/windows/amd64/kubectl.exe

# Add the binary in to your PATH env.

# Test to ensure the version of kubectl is the same as downloaded:
$ kubectl version --client

Amazon S3 Location

Kubernetes 1.19:
$ curl -o kubectl.exe https://amazon-eks.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/1.19.6/2021-01-05/bin/windows/amd64/kubectl.exe

Kubernetes 1.18:
$ curl -o kubectl.exe https://amazon-eks.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/1.18.9/2020-11-02/bin/windows/amd64/kubectl.exe

Kubernetes 1.17:
$ curl -o kubectl.exe https://amazon-eks.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/1.17.12/2020-11-02/bin/windows/amd64/kubectl.exe
