What is a Semantic markup?
Semantic markup is a way of writing and structuring your HTML. Semantic HTML or semantic is a coding style where the tags embody what the text is meant to convey. It is introduces meaning to the web page rather than just a presentation.
In Semantic HTML tags like <b></b> for bold, and <i></i> for italic should not be used, reason being they just represent formatting, and provide no indication of meaning or structure.
HTML is divided into two types of Mark-up :
- Structural Markup
- Semantic Markup
These are the key benefits from Semantic HTML:-
- Developers find ease to maintain the code and can create a wall between presentation (CSS) and content (HTML).
- less coding without cluttered tags, which will further process the page faster to load.
- Visually challenged users can access the site with a screen reader.
- It will increase your search engine ranking/traffic by putting weight to different parts of the document.
