What is SaltStack?
SaltStack, often referred to simply as Salt, is an open-source configuration management and orchestration tool designed to automate and manage IT infrastructure at scale. Developed by Thomas S. Hatch, SaltStack uses a master-minion architecture where the master server controls multiple minions (client machines) to execute commands and apply configurations. It provides a flexible and efficient way to manage system configurations, deploy software, and orchestrate complex workflows across large environments. SaltStack is known for its speed and scalability, leveraging a lightweight communication protocol that enables real-time execution of commands.
